Anti-Hazing

A copy of this document, along with a sheet containing the signatures of every member of our chapter is proudly displayed in our chapter room. Ask to see it; we would be happy to show it to you. There are no runarounds or pauses when you ask a Beta brother if we haze. The simple and immediate answer is that we don't, and we are proud of it. We believe in building up our members, not breaking them down, and this is one more reason why our brotherhood surpasses everyone else at Truman.

Zeta Xi’s Anti-Hazing Commitment

Introduction
The men of the Zeta Xi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi cherish the ideals of our Fraternity. To this end, we are proud to publish this document outlining our anti-hazing policies. The founders of Beta Theta Pi established our Fraternity on the principles of unsullied friendship, the cultivation of the intellect, and mutual aid and assistance. We believe that hazing has no place in such an organization.

Commitment
The men of this chapter will not tolerate, condone, or engage in hazing in any form.

Definition of hazing
Hazing is defined by the Zeta Xi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi to be any activity not in compliance with the goals of pledge season. Namely, these activities are those that cause physical, psychological, or emotional harm to pledges of this chapter or any activities that fail to comply with the Code or Laws of Beta Theta Pi, the policies of Truman State University, or the laws of the state of Missouri.

Goals of pledge season
Pledges of the Zeta Xi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi shall engage in activities that will foster:

  • Brotherhood among pledges and actives
  • The moral and social culture among our members
  • The education of both general and local fraternal history and lore
  • Respect to past members
  • The perpetuation of the fraternity’s ideals
  • The realization of belonging to something greater than any one person
  • Understanding of proper gentlemanly conduct
  • Knowledge of all parts of the Greek community
