As summer draws to a close, the men of Beta Theta PI prepare for Formal Rush here at Truman State University. Rush will start Friday, September 5, 2008. We encourage you take some time this summer, before the hectic start of your first year of college, to consider joining a fraternity. Don’t just jump to stereotypical conclusions of fraternity life and the quick decision of “fraternity life isn’t for me.” Fraternity Life at Truman is different from many of the stereotypes commonly associated with being in a fraternity.
At Truman, being in a fraternity, especially Beta, won’t hurt your GPA. In fact, Beta has had top GPA among fraternities 22 out 24 semesters since our chapter’s founding here at Truman. To further emphasize how important we consider our academics, all of those semesters, our GPA even surpassed the all men’s average at Truman. At Beta and Truman, we believe that you first have to be a student before you can be involved in student organizations.
At Truman, being in a fraternity, especially Beta, usually means that you are a leader on campus. Beta’s hold many leadership positions within Beta as well as other organizations like the Student Activities Board, Student Government, TruMen (the men’s A Capella here at Truman), Health Honor’s Fraternity, Globe Med (a medical club concerned with health care for the world), etc. Beta believes in the importance of building leaders for life. We pride ourselves on being the leadership fraternity and we take pride in our ability to transform students into leaders. It's a commitment we make on both the local and the national level.
At Truman, being in a fraternity, especially Beta, means you will NOT be hazed. Beta believes in building brotherhood, not tearing it down. We strive to create friendship and brotherhood for life. Each one of us has signed a document that hangs in our chapter house, for all to see, swearing our commitment to not hazing. Now, we encourage you to question any other fraternity for a commitment as bold as that.
At Truman, being in a fraternity, especially Beta, means you will have fun! Ok, so that’s not that revolutionary, but your years in college, at Truman, will be some of your best. Beta will make them even better. Beta’s hold a certain spirit that carries them forward each day, whether it’s just hanging out, brotherhood dodgeball, a baseball game during the summer, sharing a meal with 20 other brothers, a quick pick-up game of basketball at the rec, or walking up to the third floor study tables to find not just one table but many tables of Betas ready to help you study or just keep you company.
This short list only begins to scratch the surface of what Beta has to offer you. We the brothers of Beta Theta Pi encourage you to fully consider fraternity life. Definitely take time to continue surfing this site for a better understanding of what it means to be a Beta! Also take time to surf Truman Greek Life’s site, to get a better understanding of why Greek Life at Truman is different from the stereotype. If you have more questions, feel free to shoot our Rush Chairman Kyle Busch an email and he will get back to you as soon as he can.
Your time at college, at Truman will be one of fun, excitement, and self discovery. It will be a stepping stone into your future. You will make many important decisions this fall. Make the easiest, most fulfilling one. Make BETA your decision. DECISION ’08!!!
