To many outside the Beta Pail, it may be incomprehensible that someone could spend upwards of 200 hours of his free time to make a website for his fraternity, and a year ago I would have too. In this situation I feel that the best answer comes in the form of a poem, one of the first things I heard as a new Son of the Stars, and something all Betas here at Truman keep close to their hearts.

-Thank God I'm a Beta-

An old man, going a lone highway,
Came at the evening, cold and gray,
To chasm vast, both deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The sullen stream was naught to him;
But he turned when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.

"Old man," said a fellow pilgrim near,
"You are wasting strength in building here;
Your journey will end with the ending day;
You never again will pass this way;
You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide --
Why build you this bridge at eventide?"

The builder lifted his old gray head:
"Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,
"There followeth after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm that has been naught to me
To that young man may a pit-fall be,
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him."
